Demolition of former St Peters Church to be replaced with an integrated development of affordable family homes and supported living apartments. The development also includes a staff apartment to provide support to people to reach full independence.
The accommodation is for people who have experienced a crisis in their life, such as domestic abuse or losing their home. Crucially, they will have previously been open to and worked hard with support and are deemed ready to gain their independence and move on. Aimed at meeting the needs of future residents, these quality new homes provide affordable rent and allocated to local families with a housing need and a connection to the area of Bryn.
A ward-councillor led a campaign against our affordable family home/supported living development, a project designed to accommodate children/adults who have experienced a crisis in their lives/domestic abuse/homelessness/alcohol/drug addiction. A petition with over 1,980 signatures was issued to the Council prior to validation. A high profile local protest was also arranged.
We supported our client(s) by engaging with the Head of Supported Housing and the RP communications team to agree ‘one response’ to approach all enquiries. We assisted with the preparation of a very carefully considered Supporting Statement to be read out at the Planning Committee meeting at which a unanimous approval was secured.
