(Spatial Coordination)
We were appointed by Hindle Property Investments to design two drive thru’ commercial units with associated car parking and landscaping within the Denbigh Town Conservation Area.
Our main priority was to ensure that our design proposals successfully and seamlessly knitted together the neighbouring retail and residential environments.
A significant challenge arose due to the location of the site, which was wrapped around existing terraced properties along Grove Road, with limited site access availability and existing car parking problems for residents in the area. From the outset our proposals were deigned to ensure minimal impact upon the existing residential properties with the site layout including a 5m–10m landscape buffer to the private rear gardens to homes along Grove Road. This buffer, along with a new access/agrees road serving the development, ensured safety and security for staff and future visitors. The site layout also provided clear separation between vehicular and pedestrian access.
A former Wool Producers Depot of approximately 0.6Ha, the site was also irregular in shape and dissected by a culvert which carries the Henllan Brook, the inlet to the brook being just outside the application site.
We successfully married the retail and residential environments by designing single storey retail accommodation, along with plentiful landscape screening of the drive thru’ units, to ensure that the proposed development did not dominate views across the site and/or undermine the Denbigh Town Conservation Area in any way.
